Marvel Cinematic Universe: 10 Plot Points That Needed Further Exploration

5. Collateral Damage & Civilian Casualties

Hulk In pretty much every single MCU movie thus far, there has been destruction on a large scale and countless civilian deaths. Some examples are as follows: Iron Man: The final battle with Obadiah Stane's Iron Monger (Jeff Bridges) took place mostly on a busy road. Cars and buses were caught in the middle and there were crashes, explosions and displays of outright homicidal brutality by Stane that would have killed several people. Iron Man 2: For starters, that poor Formula 1 driver. And what about that final battle? In particular, that final blast. That levelled a few acres. The Incredible Hulk: In the words of Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) himself, he and Abomination (Tim Roth) 'Broke Harlem' during their battle, with the latter not caring who he hurt or killed in the process. Avengers: Assemble: The debris falling from the SHIELD helicarrier following Hawkeye's attack alone would have fallen and possibly killed several people, while the final battle levelled a lot of New York, with thousands dying in the process. Of course, comic books aren't renowned for focusing on collateral damage and civilian casualties, but in a movie universe that is trying to at least keep a degree of reality going, it would have been interesting to have at least seen a bit more acknowledgement of the consequences and repercussions of the heroes' actions. Following the battle of New York, there was a passing statement in some of the news footage regarding the damage, but that was the extent of the attention it got.
