4. A Unique & Interesting Backstory
Robert Reynolds first appeared in a Marvel comic book in September 2000 as a middle-aged, overweight guy with a seemingly ordinary life. That is until he realises that his 'arch-nemesis', the Void, is returning and seeks out some of Marvel's most prominent superheroes to help him. The reader discovers that Robert Reynolds is Sentry - a powerful hero who had always existed but, having realised that the Void was actually the other half of his own personality, had erased the memories of everyone on the planet using his own mental powers in order to save the world. Upon talking to the heroes, they recall the Sentry. He had managed to control the Hulk, a photograph of him had won Peter Parker the Pulitzer Prize and he had taught Angel how to conquer his fear of falling. His powers were derived from a super-saturated, highly-concentrated and exponentially more potent version of the super-soldier formula that created Captain America. Marvel even went as far as creating a fictional 'real world' biography for the character, with writers and creators for the character being created with false names, in order to make it seem like even the reader had forgotten about him. Essentially, Sentry would be interesting because he wouldn't need an origin story. He could just appear and the explanation could be that the rest of the MCU - and indeed the viewers - had forgotten about him, which would be so unique that it would be awesome. His wife was also murdered by Ultron, who is going to be the main villain in the Avengers sequel, so it might not be as far-fetched to include him as you may think!
