1. Jason Bourne - The Bourne Series

By the time Ultimatum came around the plot of Bourne was so twisty and random it threatened to collapse under itself. That it didn’t is testament to two things - Paul Greengrass’ intense shaky-cam shooting style and Matt Damon’s frantic amnesiac hero.

Bourne made Damon a superstar thanks to the way he handled the confused emotion and the brutish fights, a incredibly real spy in an incredibly contemporary setting. You can bet if he’d returned for Legacy it would instantly have been made twice as a good. And he has returned, resurfacing nine years later as an older, but still brutal spy. His performance in Jason Bourne may not be as advanced as some would have hoped, but it's a strong reminder of how much he owns the role.

The series proved so influential that for the next five years you could do an action movie without having the camera shake incessantly. Even James Bond got in on the act. Although like Bourne we try to forget that.
