Matt Damon In Talks For Neill Blomkamp's ELYSIUM

Here's how you put a film on the radar! Deadline say that Matt Damon is in early talks to star in Elysium, the self-penned sophomore sci-fi project from District 9 director Neill Blomkamp that Media Rights Capital are shopping around studio's next year. Presumably that sale will be easy as pie if these talks go well, especially if Damon is circling the lead. Damon's a top level movie star, whose roll call of directors he has worked for this year of course includes Clint Eastwood and the Coen Brothers! He joins District 9 lead Sharlto Copley in the film. Plot details are under strict lock and key but what we do know is that it's yet another sci-fi movie, this time with a bigger budget than District 9 (though not huge) and will include a sociopolitical subtext. Blomkamp has spoken himself about the project on numerous occasions before as far back as 2009 describing the film as a; €œsci-fi, horror, something around there€ and was €œpretty sure it€™s set on another planet€ and €œway in the future.€ with €œmany sociopolitical ideas that interest me€ all €œwrapped up inside something that is like a Hollywood action film.€ Damon's 2011 slate includes Cameron Crowe's comeback film We Bought a Zoo of which he is the lead, and the late summer Liberace biopic from Steven Soderbergh where he has a supporting role. Perhaps Elysium will film in between, if the deal for Damon comes off.
