Matt Damon says he is too old for Kirk role?

J.J. Abrams reboot of Star Trek than what we know now. We are almost guaranteed to hear something at the Comic-Con next week and we could even find out who Captain Kirk is and maybe other cast members. One name that has been linked with Star Trek probably just as much as Christian Bale was for the role of Batman back in 2003 and just as much as Daniel Craig was linked with Bond in the late part of 2005 is Matt Damon. Internet fanboys have been calling for Damon to step into Shatner's shoes and play the legendary Kirk but will it actually happen? During a sit down interview with IGN where they were discussing The Bourne Ultimatum, the reporter of course asked him about Star Trek and whether there was any substance in his name being linked with Kirk. His response is below, thanks to Filmstalker for the heads-up... Too old for the role? Damon is 36 which is one year older than the age William Shatner first took up the role but of course you have to remember that this re-boot is not going to depict the Enterprise as already being established. This film is likely to depict Kirk's first mission in Space so Damon's comments about looking for someone in their 20's is probably true. Which is a shame because I think Damon would be perfect for this role and he could probably pull off looking a little younger but then I guess it gets more difficult maybe 2 further films down the line when the character is suppose to look maybe 29 and he is 41. What does this mean for all the rumored names for the supporting roles. If Kirk is young, will Scotty, Spock, Sulu, Bones and the rest of them be of a young age too? Guys like Gary Sinise and Daniel Dae Kim are probably too old too. Indeed, will all of those characters actually be in this new re-boot? Whose to say. Guess we will find out more very soon but seriously, casting a young guy in their 20's to play the Captain of the Enterprise is very tricky indeed. THEY HAVE TO GET THAT RIGHT or the whole movie fails, and getting a strong actor who is so young is not going to be an easy task.
