Matt Damon Shares New Bourne 5 Info
Semi-spoiler-y details on a couple of set pieces and more.
Matt Damon sat down with Variety to discuss filming on the next Bourne film, tentatively known as 'Untitled Matt Damon/Bourne Sequel' on IMDb (expect that title to change). Damon didn't hold back with details of some of the big action set-pieces in the film, which is rather surprising, but then again he's 45 years old and clearly does not give a f*ck.
"We were in Tenerife, which is supposed to be Athens. It would be like a nighttime riot scene to kind of start the movie. And then England, Berlin a little bit for about a week, and a little bit in D.C. Then were going to Vegas for the third act Big car chase on the strip.All of that sounds great, and correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like much more of a globe-trotting adventure than the other Bourne films; they're definitely hitting a lot more locations worldwide this time out. He also offered some info on the timeline of the movie;
"Yeah. Because youll find the character like The Bourne Ultimatum, the third act actually in the movie dovetails with the third act of The Bourne Supremacy. So technically when the Bourne character disappears, its still 2004. So when this next one comes out in 16, it will have been 12 years in movie years that the character has been off the grid. So whats happened in those intervening years gives you a story."The gap in time is interesting, as the world and its political climate has obviously changed a lot over the last twelve years - we're in this post-Snowden, post-Arab Spring scenario where everything has monumentally shifted, and it'll be interesting to see what Jason Bourne's place in this brave new world is. I think audiences are definitely ready for some more Jason Bourne, if only to wash the bad taste out of The Bourne Legacy out. They've missed a trick by not having Jeremy Renner back along for the ride to reprise his role from that film though; as aggressively mediocre as Legacy was, it still would've been a neat team-up to see. Bourne 5 is released on 28 July 2016.
