Matthew Vaughn is NOT off THOR

Officially yes... you could say he is because the contract deal expired but to the best of my knowledge if Thor is going to be made for 2010, he will direct it.

For some really strange reason, several websites across the inter-webs are using quotes from as far back as October when they are discussing The Hollywood Reporter's typically short and unhelpful tidbit regarding Marvel's upcoming slate of films which mentioned this...

"Thor" will be released about six weeks after "Iron Man 2," and Marvel is waiting for a script polish from scribe Mark Protosevich ("I Am Legend"). Matthew Vaughn no longer is attached to direct the project because his holding deal expired December".
What people seem to be forgetting that it was actually March that Vaughn last spoke about the Marvel adaptation...
€œWe€™re in a holding pattern at the moment,€ he said. €œIt€™s up to Marvel, they have to decide if they want to make the movie and then we take it from there.€
That holding pattern as the trades say - is because Vaughn's deal expired. He handed in a script to Marvel which they weren't sure they wanted to proceed with but he wasn't off the picture. As far as I know (and I will admit it's all from my assumptions), Vaughn is still very much on board this project and his directing the piece was never the question at the studio - it was more the wonder if they really wanted to make a film based on the character or not - a superhero who is not guaranteed money back like Iron Man. Earlier this week they of course announced they did want to push ahead with Thor so I would expect an announcement soon that Vaughn is directing the piece. Or is that too much wishful thinking on my part?
