If Doctor Strange feels like an especially dynamic and versatile film upon rewatches, a huge part of that is thanks to Marvel branching out sonically for the film. This was the first time the studio worked with renowned, award-winning composer Michael Giacchino and the results speak for themselves.

Giacchino’s score for the film was one of the best the MCU had had up until this point, with a great theme and the impeccable ability to immerse viewers within the ever-changing, psychedelic world of the film’s narrative. But one of the most interesting things about Giacchino’s score is the final song, Master of the Mystic End Credits.

Originally, Derrickson had been aiming to use a Jimi Hendrix song here. However, the Hendrix estate did not agree to the music being licensed out. Then, he was going to use a Pink Floyd song. But again, copyright legislation complicated the matter.

As a result, Derrickson was left searching for a psychedelic rock song to put over the end credits. Giacchino decided to step up to the plate on his own, forming a make-shift rock band with some of his musician friends for a few hours and recording Master of the Mystic End Credits.
