MCU: 10 Real World Issues Addressed In Marvel Films

7. Avengers Infinity War: Genocide

With Thanos enacting his Malthusian philosophies in all the wrong ways, there's no hiding from the fact that, under all the storytelling and great acting, Thanos is a murderer who used his ideology to justify the largest scale genocide seen in a superhero film.

The most terrifying thing about Thanos, however, is how he spread the delusion that genocide is the sole solution to a problem that has countless other less bloodthirsty answers - especially with the power of the Infinity Gauntlet, which has "infinity" in the name for the possibilities it opens up.

It hearkens back to leaders of past atrocities, all of whom have, somehow or other, justified mass murder in ways that "make sense" to them and their followers.

Despite the Russos giving Thanos an apparent "hero's journey", however, it is through Gamora that the truth is revealed: from Thanos's forces snatching Gamora from her mother to massacring her people, to reminding her that he has always been a great liar in a way she never achieved, and claiming to love her when he murdered her.

No matter Thanos's reasons, the film unambiguously framed his victory as nothing but loss for all involved, apart from himself.
