Following Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield's older iterations of Peter Parker, Tom Holland has portrayed the MCU version of Spider-Man as a fifteen year old kid, struggling to keep his superhero life balanced with his school life. One of the defining traits of Holland's Parker is his desperation for a mentor and role model.

Since first being contacted in Civil War, Peter looked to Mr. Stark as his father figure and guide into the realms of saving the world. The connection between the two was so great that when Tony passed away, Peter was hit just as hard as Rhodey and Happy, two men who had known Stark a lot longer than him.

With the world looking for someone to be their next Iron Man, Stark passed the mantle onto Spider-Man himself in the form of E.D.I.T.H, allowing him access to all of his protocols. Peter however, still searching for a new hero and not realising he needed to be the one to step into Iron Man's shoes, handed the system over to Quentin Beck.

This was something clearly important to Tony, and when you bear in mind this was his parting gift to Peter, it's amazing Parker simply gave it away to someone he had literally just met. The fact that he gave it to a villain is almost irrelevant, it's just the fact that he gave it away to anybody that is so shocking.
