MCU: 12 Changes From The Comics That Were Completely Justified

2. No Deaths In Civil War

Civil War Death of Goliath
Marvel

When it was revealed that Marvel were going to adapt classic Marvel story Civil War for the third Captain America movie, fans immediately suspected that it meant we would get to see the MCU's first real blood lust.

The comic book event had, after all, killed a bunch of innocents in the trigger event and both Goliath and Captain America were killed by the time the dust settled. The MCU version, however, left out those deaths (and failed to introduce Goliath at all).

It might have looked like an attempt to make the story less troubling for kids, but it actually made sense to focus on the role of Helmut Zemo and to have superhero registration tie back to the previous collateral damage the Avengers unwittingly caused elsewhere in MCU movies. A death as big as Cap's would have devalued the twist and that sort of thing would be much better in Infinity War to really sell how much of a threat Thanos is.
