MCU: 15 Majorly Dumb Plot Holes You Never Noticed
6. Why Did Ego Tell His Son About His Mother - Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
Villains in the MCU have a tendency to methodically plan out their evil scheme for years or decades with meticulous care, only to make a dumb decision in the 11th hour that screws up everything.
And nobody screwed up more than Ego. This Celestial spent millions of years spreading his seeds on every world he visited, hoping to activate them to spread his consciousness through the cosmos. Because this expansion can only be triggered by two Celestials, the cosmic entity tries to convince his son, Star-Lord, to join him, even though it will result in the death of every person who inhabits these seeded worlds.
As Ego saps his son's life-force to initiate the expansion, he casually mentions that he killed Star-Lord's mother. This revelation allows Star-Lord to break from his father's control and blast him to pieces.
Why did Ego say that? How did he expect his son to react? He spent eons preparing his plan to take over the universe but decides to risk it all by divulging this crucial piece of information for seemingly no reason.
