MCU: 15 Majorly Dumb Plot Holes You Never Noticed
3. The Timeline Doesn't Add Up - Spider-Man: Homecoming
There is a continuity error in the beginning of Spider-Man: Homecoming that is so simple and yet, so glaring, you will be baffled how nobody clocked it. The opening scene takes place shortly after The Battle of New York, which occurred in 2012. The movie then skips ahead eight years, which is where the rest of the story takes place.
But if it's eight years later, that means the events in Spider-Man: Homecoming occur in 2020... which is two years after Thanos wiped out half of all life with the Infinity Stones. But we know Spider-Man: Homecoming takes place before Thanos performed The Snap because... The Snap killed Spider-Man! So the chronology of this movie doesn't make any sense.
Even though there are charts and diagrams all over the Internet trying to work out the timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as accurately as possible, this is one example where the filmmakers clearly screwed up.
I know retconning stories is really tricky but this is primary school math we're talking about here! If the prologue stated it took place six years in the past instead of eight, it would've been totally fine.
