MCU: Black Widow Will Feature Russian Captain America, Red Guardian
Why David Harbour’s Alexei will be important...
When it was first announced (but not officially announced) that Black Widow was getting her own MCU movie FINALLY, it was always assumed that we would be getting a prequel focusing on her days as a Red Room assassin. When she then went and got herself dead in Avengers: Endgame, that much was pretty much guaranteed, but there was never a confirmation of just when her story would be set.
Well, there is now and there's a whole host of other news coming out of Comic Con that should prick your ears up nice and excitedly.
The Black Widow movie is now confirmed to be releasing in May 2020 and as well as Scarlett Johansson, we have further confirmed cast members in the shape of Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Rachel Weisz, O-T Fagbenle and Ray Winstone (as previously rumoured). Pugh will play Yelena Belova and the only other confirmed character is Harbour's Red Guardian - the Russian version of Captain America. Can you say perfect casting?
We also got news that Taskmaster is the villain - something that was leaked out of the set recently, in fact - and that the story is set after Captain America: Civil War after Tony Stark sent Natasha away for helping Captain America and Bucky escape the airport in Germany. There was also confirmation from the footage on-show that we'll find out what happened in Budapest, though no confirmation that Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye will appear. It would make sense though.
