MCU: Could Agent Carter Be Set For A Shock Return?
Mysterious Marvel visit might offer a hint...
Fans of Hayley Atwell's performance as Agent Peggy Carter might be in for a treat in a future MCU movie, because it seems she may be coming back. After seeing her spin-off TV show cruelly cancelled, Hayley Atwell's S.H.I.E.L.D. founder has appeared in MCU movies, but her death in Captain America: Civil War seemingly put paid to any possible return.
So it's strange to see Atwell turning up at Marvel Studios HQ for a meeting with Co-President Louis D’Espinosa on Monday, assuming it's not just a case of friends reunited. D’Esposito posted a couple of tweets around the visit, first saying, “Look who came by for a visit today” and then standing in front of a wall mural of the Howling Commandos saying “Standing in front of one of my favorite murals with one of my favorite people, Hayley Atwell.”
It seems more likely that Atwell is actually here to talk Carter's future in the MCU. Or more appropriately, her past.
With both Captain Marvel and Ant-Man & The Wasp heading into production and both set at least partly in the past, there's ample opportunity for Peggy to return. She already appeared in the flash-back prologue of Ant-Man, and given the focus on Janet Van Dyne's disappearance (which happened when she and Hank Pym were still operating alongside S.H.I.E.L.D.), it would make a lot of sense that key S.H.I.E.L.D. characters would return.
And the same can be said of Captain Marvel, which will be set during the 90s, when Carter could still be operating in S.H.I.E.L.D. and as Nick Fury is heavily involved, her involvement is a no-brainer.
