18. Doctor Strange - Kaecilius
Before you say Dormammu is the villain because he's the big boss in Doctor Strange, Dormammu acts more as a weapon than any conscious being. On the other hand, Mads Mikkelson's character Kaecilius does lose all his menace and villainy when that big purple face shows up.
At least with Kaecilius we get some humor and personality. The quips about not judging Doctor Strange on his name, or gently mocking him for not knowing how to use a magic bowl as a weapon play more into the strengths of the villain than the hero.
Kaecilius appears in a few brief scenes to remind us he exists, and dressed just like his nameless mute zealots he does not even stand out among the rest when the impressive world-bending battle sequences take place.
His backstory is a little Star Wars-y, which by now feels rather dated. A student who becomes enthralled by dark forces isn't an old cliche, but it's certainly not fresh either.
