MCU Fantastic Four: 10 Lessons Disney Need To Learn From Fant4stic
3. Use Balanced Structure To Keep Pace
Fant4stic had a massive problem with the structure of its story. A chunk of its run-time was spent when these characters weren't close to being scientists and when they did get there, Storm's daddy trouble plot line emerged.
It made you think what was the focus of this story. Were we watching a superhero movie?
Since when the four were adorned with their powers the story skipped all the potential growth of them being powered runaways, and instead immediately went back into the lab with them working for the government.
When Disney works on their addition to the Fantastic Four movies, they must include story lines that diverge but eventually envelope themselves into the spanning narrative and structure of the film. If your movie is centred on the coming together against a common man-made evil, then no time should be wasted on setting up conflicts expanded later on.
For example, Fant4stic had an early scene of Grimm coming home to be beaten up by his brother who shouted, "It's Clobbering Time!"- The Thing's famous catchphrase. It wasn't until the finale that it is spoken and brought up again. This was out of character and place, and it certainly was not interwoven into the film's structure.
