MCU Phase 4: 10 Comic Book Panels That Must Be Recreated
3. Hawkeye Rescues Pizza Dog
Although the chances of a Hawkeye movie happening are admittedly slim, one would hope that Marvel aren't gearing up to retire the character altogether. Granted Jeremy Renner has never really flown in the role, but he's not exactly had the space to do so.
What sticks out with his portrayal, however, is that it's shown flashes of brilliance from time to time. Age of Ultron played up on the 'regular guy' aspect of the character remarkably well in its finale, and he was a fine fit to lambast Tony in Civil War's prison scene. That's the Hawkeye we need to see more of, and, if he's not getting a solo film, then a Netflix series must surely be on the cards.
Although facile assessments of Clint Barton will tell you he's a dull and unremarkable character when compared to his fellow Avengers, he has quite the history to boast in the comics, including an Eisner Award-winning series from 2012, written by Matt Fraction and drawn by David Aja.
Focussing on the hero during his time off from Avenging things, the Fraction/Aja series was renowned for its comedic and suitably heartfelt narrative, in which a very, very good boy was at its centre.
The good boy in question was, of course, Pizza Dog - Clint's Italian-cuisine loving canine who rescued him at the start of the series. Making a Marvel feature about Clint and his dog would be fantastic in every sense of the word and, if they did manage to follow the main beats of Fraction's storyline, then it could end up being one of the best Marvel features yet.
