MCU Phase 4: 8 Major Comics That Could Inspire Its Story

Although the first Captain Marvel film seems to be taking inspiration from both the Kree-Skrull War and the first of Kelly Sue DeConnick's Captain Marvel comics, In Pursuit of Flight, the character will be fully developed by the time Phase 4 comes around, which calls for a sequel set in the modern day, and one that can capture Carol Danvers at her peak.

There have been plenty of great stories to have starred Danvers at one stage or another, but the character's actually in the unique position of having her most recent ones contributing the most to her mythos. DeConnick was instrumental in her development and, boasting Jamie McKelvie's now iconic blue and red redesign, Danvers started the last decade as one of Marvel's most important figures.

Reboots did unfortunately shuffle the series around, but Higher, Further, Faster, More (incidentally the tagline for the new film) repositioned the Captain as a galaxy-trotting diplomat, and provided the launchpad for the character to take a leading role on the Ultimates - where she hatched a plan to kill Galactus - and on the Avengers too.

Guardians-esque in its delivery, but decidedly less cartoony, you can be certain that Marvel will be mining DeConnick's stories until the well dries up.
