MCU Phase 4: 8 Reasons Why It Must Look To The Past

1. What Did Happen In Budapest?

Although Marvel have ducked the question since, especially when it was revealed Hawkeye had a family in Age of Ultron, fans are still really eager to find out what actually happened in Budapest.

Alluded to in Joss Whedon's first Avengers film, Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton's first ever meeting is ripe for a spin-off. Granted we'd much rather see Black Widow get her own film first, but there's no denying a look into the early days of S.H.I.E.L.D's deadliest agents would make for a spectacular espionage thriller. That first Avengers film really gave fans a sense of how connected these two assassins were, and yet they've been forced to take a backseat ever since.

"I got on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s radar in a bad way, Agent Barton was sent to kill me. He made a different call."

Although it's never revealed if Budapest was the pair's first meeting, a film centred around either that or one of their most hectic missions would be an excellent way of addressing one of the key relationships in the MCU today, and provide a fitting bookend to a storyline that, for better or for worse, we've seen play out over the course of four or so films.

It might be in the back of people's minds now, but it's moments like these that need to get explored going forward, particularly so, if Nat and Clint continue to get neglected.
