While it looked like Thor would be joining the Guardians Of The Galaxy, the shakeup in the release schedule now means he has to abandon his adventures in outer space and return to New Asgard for some reason. That COULD mean we get all of the Guardians in Thor 4, but it's no guarantee, so we'll err on the side of caution here.

Whether he will be as healthy as he was in Endgame by the time he returns remains to be seen.

For What If? there's a distinct chance we could be looking at something like a "What If Thor Never Escaped Sakaar?" story with Hemsworth staying on Sakaar or something along those lines.
