MCU: Predicting How Thanos Will Gain The Infinity Stones (And How They Were Gained In The Comics)

In the comics, The Space Gem belonged to a cosmic being named The Runner, an Elder who, by the time of Thanos' visit, was well aware of The Mad Titan's quest and intentions. Unwilling to give up the source of his unmatched speed and agility (similar to the abilities possessed by Quicksilver), The Runner literally ran circles around Thanos, never allowing The Titan to catch him.

However, Thanos was able to use The Time Gem to age The Runner to over one million years old in a matter of seconds, allowing him to simply pick the gem from the frail, defenceless Elder's forehead with little trouble.

The Space Gem exists in the MCU in the form of The Tesseract, and it seems we have already seen how Thanos will retrieve it. At the end of Thor: Ragnarok we see Loki unable to resist the call of The Tesseract; the stone he sought throughout the entirety of Avengers Assemble. Yet in the Infinity War trailer, we see The God of Mischief handing it to an off-screen character that is sure to be Thanos. This scene will be a call-back to the threat made to Loki by The Other, promising nowhere to hide should he fail to deliver The Tesseract.

Since we have already seen The Mad Titan's ship confront Thor and Loki during the Ragnarok post-credit scene, and the fact that The Tesseract is already within the gauntlet in the trailer, it is likely The Mad Titan will get his hands on The Space Stone very early on in Infinity War, possibly even during the opening scenes.
