Though it was slightly over-sexualised, Black Widow's transformation from Tony Stark's assistant into the catsuit wearing, tendril haired Black Widow had a big effect in Iron Man 2 - particularly as it successfully nailed the whole femme fatale thing.

But some artwork from Ryan Meinerding confirms that she almost had a much more functional, Metal Gear Solid-like tactical suit that she could have worn - as well as an entirely different haircut. The choice to go green was a bold one, given her name, so it's not all that surprising it wasn't used.
