It's hard to imagine a time before we all knew who the Avengers were. Prior to 2012, they were often either totally unknown to the general public or just seen as a less cool rip-off of the Justice League. But when that first movie released to mark the end of Phase One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, every single one of them became household names.
Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, The Hulk, Hawkeye and Thor have arguably become even more popular than the most well-known DC heroes in the eyes of the public. Subsequent films in the series have added more members to the superhero group, including The Falcon, War Machine, Scarlet Witch and the Vision.
