Mel Gibson reunites with LETHAL WEAPON's Shane Black for COLD WARRIOR!!!

In what is as cool a news story as you're going to find all week - Variety have the scoop that Mel Gibson is to re-team with Lethal Weapon screenwriter Shane Black for the spy thriller Cold Warrior. The movie is Cold Warrior and will see Gibson play a spy from the cold war era who comes out of retirement to team with a younger agent to confront a domestic terrorism threat orchestrated by Russia. The movie is Black's first directorial effort post-Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. The only downer is it won't be based on his script, which is a damn shame. I'm a huge fan of Shane Black's writing, and I would encourage any young screenwriter to study his work, because the snappy dialogue, his character writing and the twists/turns in his works are remarkable. His script for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, a love letter to Raymond Chandlermay be one of the smartest the film noir genre has ever produced but I have faith in his directing talents. Chuck Mondry - who IMDB recognise but don't quite know why - has wrote the script which Universal hope to film in June. Gibson's first lead role in YEARS opens tomorrow - the revenge thriller Edge of Darkness which OWF saw on Monday marks a spectacular return for the bad-ass Mel we've missed for so long. Expect review later. Gibson & Black = bad-ass cinema.
