Mel Gibson will attempt to make the greatest VIKING movie ever with Leonardo DiCaprio!

Or at least, the greatest viking movie this side of Tony Curtis & Kirk Douglas!

Will Mel Gibson (director), Leonardo DiCaprio (lead) and The Departed screenwriter William Monahan (writer) break the Viking genre duck late 2010, when the trio attempt to make the Viking epic to end all Viking epics? If I know Gibson, he will settle for nothing less than the greatest viking movie ever made. Braveheart, The Passion of the Christ and Apocalypto... with that kind of big budget CV, does anyone doubt Gibson when he takes DiCaprio, gives him the Nordic helmet, a big axe, a longship of his own and shoots a bloody epic the viking motion picture genre hasn't seen since this side of Tony Curtis and Kirk Douglas?

the-vikingsPathfinder, Outlander and 13th Warrior most recently have tried, but still the king of the viking movies is this over half a century old epic! Variety carry the scoop, claiming the currently untitled picture to be a period drama (it won't... it'll be a dark, grim, bloody, enthralling, gigantic sized epic) and use quotes such as "awe-aspiring" (quote from producer Graham King) and "unsparing" in what they expect from the picture. Project seems to be in it's very early incarnation... so nobody is spilling nothin' just yet, sadly. I wanna hear more!
