2. More Interesting Side Characters
I was personally a huge fan of Tony Shalhoub's "Jack Jeebs" character from the first two movies. He provided linkage between the world J knew and the one he was to learn to accept as well as providing comic relief at vital moments. Tony Shalhoub is comically fantastic anyway so I missed his regular cameo in the third film. But aside from Jeebs, there weren't many interesting side characters to work with in the first two films, least of all the sloppy two-headed knuckle-dragger portrayed by Johnny Knoxville in MIB 2. Sure, there were some funny cameos, most notably Michael Jackson, desperately trying to convince Z of his credentials as 'Agent M'. But what seemed to be missing for the most part was stand-out characters who served a logical purpose, provided a few laughs and helped bring the story forward. This was, in my opinion, cleverly picked up on by the writers of MIB 3, through the inclusion of Griffin, a pre-cognitive and somewhat spaced-out alien. His guidance helped drive the story forward and provided foreshadowing of future events which made the plot twist more believable and relevant, not to mention the child-like humour he provided. More characters of this nature would be a welcome addition to MIB 4, but equally important will be the casting of any such roles.
