Michael Keaton: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

5 Awesome Performances€

5. Captain Gene Mauch - The Other Guys (2010)

Keaton has seemingly been easing himself back into big movie work after that off-season of his that yielded some of the latter entries in his list. Or else he doesn't really need to work, and just does fun things when he fancies it. Regardless, his small part in The Other Guys was a stand-out. The fourth collaboration between Will Ferrell and Adam McKay after Anchorman, Talladega Nights and Step Brothers is a weird one. On the one hand, it's a loose and improvisational spoof of cop dramas; on the other, it's kind of a serious commentary on the banking crisis. Anyway, amongst those two clashing priorities Keaton comes down as a solid comic player as police Captain Gene Mauch, who works a second job at Bed Bath & Beyond and keeps quoting TLC lyrics without realising, and manages to keep a straight face.
