Mickey Rourke: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
3. Nate Granzini - Passion Play (2010)
The great Mickey Rourke comeback was a beautiful thing to watch, but we've got a sneaking suspicion it might already be over it. His star turns in The Wrestler and Sin City were a joy to behold, but for the most part he's failed to capitalise on them. Iron Man 2 was kinda fun, but he was surplus to requirements in The Expendables, barely noticeable amongst all the CGI of Immortals and then there's this piece of crap. Again, we can't let Rourke shoulder all the blame for this abominable indie movie from a few years ago - especially because the likes of Megan Fox, Rhys Ifans and Bill Freakin' Murray were also somehow suckered into appearing - but his performance certainly doesn't help. Especially since, much like The Wrestler, Passion Play mainly hinges on that performance. Unlike The Wrestler, mind, Rourke doesn't get the chance to play a realistic, well-rounded character in a grim tale of personal misfortune; instead, he's a small-time jazz musician and recovering heroin addict who falls in love with Fox's performance artist, who may or may not be a literal angel from heaven. Like, with the wings and everything. It's also not Rourke's fault that somebody put him together with Fox and thought they made a credible couple, or that he took such a silly film so seriously, but it all adds up to a pretty crummy performance from him and an awful movie overall.
