Mission: Impossible - 15 Most WTF Franchise Moments

9. Ethan Goes Full John Woo (M:I2)

Mission: Impossible 2 is very much a love-hate movie, and though much of the film is actually surprisingly boring, nobody could call its mind-bogglingly over-the-top finale dull.

Action maestro John Woo is finally given the green-light to unleash an unabashed sensory assault on the audience, as Ethan steals a motorcycle and makes off with the Chimera virus cure.

He's pursued by Ambrose and his men, of course, causing Hunt to pull out every absurd 90s action movie trick in the book: riding through fire, shooting a gun while riding with one hand, literally skating on the road alongside his bike, and even playing a ridiculous game of motorcycle chicken with Ambrose (concluding with their bikes exploding in mid-air while the two men also collide with one another).

That's not even the end of it, though: after a protracted fist-fight, Ambrose gets the drop on Hunt with his gun, so what does Hunt do? He stamps his own gun out of the sand, catapulting it into the air, before grabbing it, falling to the floor and shooting Ambrose dead.

Whatever your opinion of M:I2, you can't fault Woo's commitment to insane action.
