Mission: Impossible Fallout Review: 5 Reasons You Must See It

The best action movie since Mad Max: Fury Road. Yep, that's right.

Despite the fact it’s been around for over 20 years now, the Mission: Impossible franchise has only just spawned its first ever direct sequel in this year’s Fallout. Marking the first time a director has returned to the series as well, Christopher McQuarrie and his team have followed up 2015’s Rogue Nation with the best instalment yet.

Catching up with IMF agent Ethan Hunt in the wake of taking down The Syndicate, the new movie opens already in the thick of it. Having apocalyptic dreams about his arch nemesis Solomon Lane, it doesn’t take five minutes before Hunt is hunting down plutonium to stop an impending nuclear attack. Of course, he’s not alone, but helped by returning cast members Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames and Rebecca Ferguson, as well as newcomer Henry Cavill.

Of course, this is a Mission: Impossible movie so the actual meat and bones of the narrative ranges from the ludicrous to the downright insane. By now though, the purposeful convolution, rug pulling and disinterest in obeying the laws of physics are the franchise’s bread and butter - but that doesn’t mean it’s not a smart movie.
