7. See The Winds Of Change
One of Monsters University's master strokes was taking slimy Randall, the villain of Monsters, Inc. and turning him into a freshmen obsessed with being in with the cool kids. Not only incredibly funny, this had more than a ring of truth to it; its not at all rare to see those sort of people slowly develop in nasty types. One of the most popular secondary characters in the original film, having Randall appear in any form was brilliant (if there was a sequel it was highly unlikely hed appear) and his dialogue stood just to right side of referential; it never once felt contrived. One of my favourite moments in the the 2001 film was his first appearance, where he delivers the well known line about 'the winds of changes'. So imagine my delight when that particular quote gets a mention in University. When Sully first breaks into Mike and Randalls room, we see the chameleon has a motivational poster with a rewording of that quote on it, "Winds of Change. Shhh. Do you hear them?". Like many of the references to the original, this works to enhance Monsters, Inc., rather than contradict it.
