4. Mikes New Car
Unlike Toy Story or Cars, Pixar have left the monsters well alone when it comes to short films; the subpar Toy Story toons have been blighting Disney's animated releases for a while now and Cars Toons are the same joke repeated ad nauseam (and Cars 2 is really just a feature length version of them). In fact, the only appearance of Mike and Sully outside of their original film before University was Mikes New Car, a brilliant short available on the Monsters, Inc. DVD (and VHS, highlighting how long it is since that film was released). The short, originally intended to be part of the feature film, shows Mike trading in the car he obsessed over at the films beginning, stating the reason to be six wheeled drive. But now Monsters University has hit it seems like it could have been something more subliminal. In Squishies basement theres a drawing near identical to the car seen pinned to the wall. Maybe Mike fell in love with drawing and just had to own it in real life. Its a true blink-and-youll-miss-it moment, but its a nice nod to a short that could have been forgotten.
