20 Movies That Could've Been Horror Movies

10. Palm Springs

It's often said that Groundhog Day is a stupendously entertaining movie, no matter that the reality of being forced to repeat the same day for eternity has the makings of an existential horror masterpiece.

And a more modern analogue of this is the brilliant rom-com Palm Springs, where two strangers (Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti) end up stuck in a 24-hour time loop at a wedding.

While there might be some initial amusement at being stuck in a time loop that's basically a raging party, it's also fair to say that the novelty factor would wear off in short order, and having to be a wedding guest hundreds, even thousands of times in a row would surely become a mind-numbing, spiritually draining experience.

Groundhog Day and Palm Springs certainly both nod towards the crushing existential ennui that such repetition would cause, though a far darker, non-comedic treatment would also certainly be possible.
