Murphy & Miller team for The Hippie Hippie Shake
Cillian Murphy and Sienna Miller have been cast in Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason director Beeban Kidron's next film The Hippie Hippie Shake. Max Minghella and Emily Booth have also been cast. The movie written by Lee Hall (Billy Elliott) is based on the memoir Hippie Hippie Shake: The Dreams, the Trips, the Trials, the Love-ins, the Screw Ups: The Sixties written by Richard Neville, the character that Cillian Murphy will play in the movie. The film will use a famous obscenity trial involving the Australian satirical magazine Oz as a metaphor for a journey through the swinging '60s in London. The mag was transplanted to London, where Neville and his cohorts became the defendants in the longest obscenity trial in English legal historyafter a sexually explicit issue aroused the ire of the Obscene Publications Squad. The trial ended with the defendants sentenced to hard labor, but an appeal absolved them, with the provision that they stop publishing the magazine.Strange sounding movie and a strange choice of director. Murphy and Miller should make a nice pairing but I can't imagine me ever wanting to go and see a movie titled The Hippie Hippe Shake.
