Never Compromise: THE IRON LADY Poster Debuts

The Weinsteins have released the first poster for upcoming Oscar-botherer The Iron Lady, which stars Meryl Streep as former British Prime Minster Margaret Thatcher, and promises to feature an intimate portrait of the Conservative leader, who is still the only female to have sat as head of the British government. The film, which also co-stars Jim Broadbent, Alexandra Roach, Harry Lloyd, Olivia Colman, Nicholas Farrell, Susan Brown, Roger Allam, Anthony Head, Julian Wadham, Pip Torrens, Nick Dunning, Richard E Grant, David Westhead, Angus Wright and most excitingly for me personally John Sessions (brilliant, brilliant man), is likely to be on a lot of people's lips from it's end of year release until the Academy Awards no doubt recognise it some way or another. Anyway, here's the poster... Great looking poster, though the pallette used in Streep's face makes her look decidedly Joker-like. Personally, I've been hankering for a Margaret Thatcher movie that focuses specifically on the Miners' Strike period, rather than something that seeks to further the mythology of Thatcher as a historically important figure. Yes, she was a woman, but that isn't the only important thing to focus on, and that period during her reign is definitely the most intrigue-filled. But, I will concede that the opportunity to see Streep powerhousing it as Thatcher is a distinctly exciting pleasure, and it looks like inspired casting at this stage.
