20 Upcoming 2026 Movies You Don't Know About (But Should)

9. One Night Only

One Night Only
Universal Pictures

The big-screen rom-com may be struggling, but credit where it's due - One Night Only has one hell of a fresh premise for the genre.

This heightened rom-com from Easy A and Anyone But You director Will Gluck is set in a reality where pre-marital sex is illegal except for a single day per year, effectively allowing horny singletons 24 hours to get it out of their system.

Our two star-crossed single folk are Allie (Monica Barbaro) and Owen (Callum Turner), who of course try to find someone to score with only to presumably be nudged towards one another.

Rom-coms are among the most stridently formulaic of genres, so anyone trying to do something even remotely different with it should be applauded.

To basically take the concept of The Purge and make it all about sex is nothing if not an amusingly twisted idea, and should elevate what at its core is probably still a relatively predictable meet-cute.
