New Back To The Future Documentary Coming 21st October 2015!
Jason Aron's Back in Time set to be the definitive word on the 80s classic.
Star Wars may be the main exponent of sci-fi nostalgia these days, but it's not the only celebrated example out there. In fact, for many (myself included) Robert Zemeckis' time-travel comedy Back to the Future is the real mac-daddy when it comes to joyous 80s escapism (yes, Star Wars was released in '77, but that's not where we're going with this). So it's exciting to see Deadline's report that we'll be getting a documentary devoted to Back to the Future and its sequels this autumn, with contributions from some of the major names attached to the beloved work. Documentarian and presumed pop-culture enthusiast Jason Aron's Back in Time will play as a caring excavation of Back to the Future's long-standing appeal, delving into the project's genesis and subsequent impact on film-making, film-going and everything in-between. The prospect is made all the more enticing by the revelation Aron gained access to most of the major talent associated with the series, including Zemeckis, Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd and producer Steven Spielberg. It sounds like film buff-manna, a mature, thorough and rounded attempt to celebrate and understand one of modern pop culture's most enduring brands. I'm sure much of it will cover familiar ground, but hopefully Aron's framing of the narrative. combined with some fresh content will render the documentary a must see for nerds everywhere. There's no official news on a UK release, but I'd assume it'll follow shortly after the film's stateside bow on 21st October 2015 (Sound familiar BTTF fans?).
