New JOURNEY for the Wizard

Daniel Radcliffe's going to have a real difficult time in his career trying to overcome the 'type-cast' disease that hits young actors when they have played an iconic role but I will say, so far he's done a terrific job in picking work outside of POTTER. His parts in the adult themed DECEMBER BOYS and the made for t.v. feature MY BOY JACK haven't done him any harm at all and alongside his big theatre role, he is beginning to branch his career out. British newspaper The Guardian have word on another project the young star has attached himself too. The movie is titled JOURNEY and it will see him play the true life figure of a young renowned photographer Dan Eldon, who was stoned to death by a mob in Mogadishu in 1993, aged just 22. He he left behind a series of journals and photographs of his time in Somalia which have captivated artists and activists around the world.

Daniel Radcliffe

Apparently big stars like Heath Ledger, Orlando Bloom, Ryan Phillipe and Joaquin Pheonix have lobbied for the part in the past but it's not until the boy's mother sat down with Daniel Radcliffe did she feel like she had found the right guy...
"There are parallels in the two Dans' lives. Daniel Radcliffe is a poet, he keeps journals and he's half Jewish. He has a puckishness, sense of humour and energy inside him which remind me of Dan... ...Daniel Radcliffe is the first time we've found a young enough actor with a global following. We love the way he's a global soul. He's travelled the world and feels comfortable in the world and hasn't been corrupted by Hollywood."
The film will be based on the The Journey is the Destination (a modified published book of his journal) and will be directed by Bronen Hughes (HARRIET THE SPY) from a Jan Sardi (THE NOTEBOOK) script. Eldon is an important figure in the media and for Radcliffe to be have been hand chosen by his mother is a huge compliment to him. This is a great chance to leap out from the seams of HARRY POTTER and prove to the world that you will have a career outside of the Wizard.
