New Macbeth Trailer - You've Never Seen Shakespeare Like This

Michael Fassbender stars in The Scottish Film.

A relentless trailer for Macbeth has just dropped. Directed by Justin Kurzel and starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, the Shakespeare adaptation's already a very exciting prospect, but this trailer pushes it over the edge. It quickly sells the basic plot idea (Macbeth and his wife plot to kill the king so they can rule Scotland) before getting to showing of the film's gorgeous visuals. Check it out above (but be ready for chills). Macbeth premiered in Cannes, where it got a rousing reaction. And before all the positive buzz gets out of hand, let me just say this - all the hype is deserved. Using the Bard's original language and delivered in thick Scottish brogue, this is an authentic adaptation that "gets" the material, but isn't afraid to kill its darlings to bring the story to the screen - the film itself is a lean two hours. But what really stands out are the visuals. As you can see in the trailer there's unforgiving, desolate landscapes (a far cry from Highlander) and stylised, red-mist confrontations (that but is actually a scene from right near the end of the film) and it all looks incredible. What isn't seen here is quite how impressive the action sequences are. Even though it's a very text driven story, this take on Macbeth has various dialogue-less scenes that really amp up the tension. Presented partially in slow-mo, they're going to be one of the film's big talking points. You can read the full review here. Macbeth is out in UK cinemas on October 2nd 2015.
