New Mantis Rumour Ties Thor Ragnarok To Guardians Of The Galaxy 2

Also, you're going to get to see telepathic alien shrubs.

So it seems James Gunn's reticence to tie his Guardians Of The Galaxy sequel to any of the Avengers - and especially Hulk - has something of a back-door in it.

According to specialist rumour mongers and breaking news hounds That Hashtag Show, Marvel's Thor: Raganarok has a specific tie to the Guardians.

Taika Waititi's sequel is currently filming in Australia, and THS say that part of the production will see Thor and Hulk encounter an ancient alien race known as the Cotati. They are the key to the link with Guardians, as it was they who are traditionally credited as being behind bringing new Guardians member Mantis' powers to life.

They're usually a plant-based species - a little like more static, shrubby versions of Groot actually - with telepathic powers. Presumably they're going to be found on one of the planets Hulk and Thor end up on during their bromantic intergalactic road trip.

Here's what the characters look like in the comics...

Apparently, in the film they'll more closely resemble Mantis, though, which is good news for anyone who isn't looking forward to talking bushes.

THS sought confirmation that Mantis might reappear in Ragnarok, but they were unable to get word. It's probably also pretty unlikely, unless the rest of the Guardians are in tow, and as much as that would make for a delightful curveball, it's unlikely. The best you can hope for is a post-credits stinger.
