20 Recent Movies EVERYONE Knew Would Suck

Considering that the last genuinely good Scary Movie sequel was more than 20 years ago - 2003's Scary Movie 3 - and the lousy track record of belated comedy sequels, was anyone expecting much at all from this belated sixth entry?

Even ignoring the fact that none of the five previous films received good notices from critics, the marketing for this new installment was so single-mindedly focused on the its envelope-pushing "edginess," mocking "woke" and progressive movements in the pursuit of cheap, lazy laughs, that it was easy to see which way the winds were blowing.

And even the parodies of recent hit films like Sinners, Weapons, Longlegs, and The Substance feel mostly low-effort and half-baked - perhaps unsurprising considering several of them were added during reshoots two months before release.

Though there's a fleeting thrill at seeing Anna Faris, Regina Hall, and the Wayans Brothers back together again, Scary Movie is exactly the film the trailers told us - warned us, even - it would be.
