Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Villains Revealed

Darth Vader isn't the only old friend Obi-Wan Kenobi may face in his upcoming Disney+ series...

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series is now full steam ahead on Disney+. Everyone is obviously very excited because Obi-Wan is the best Star Wars character ever (duh), and to see Ewan McGregor back in that iconic role might just be the coolest Star Wars story ever. (Also, that picture of Hayden Christensen with the Hot Toys figures that's been doing the rounds this week week? Just amazing.)

Of course, Disney had an Investor Day event last Thursday where Lucasfilm raised up a big content ball like Boss Nass and announced looaddss of new Star Wars projects, also providing updates for previously announced works like Kenobi.

Lucasfilm provided some exciting teases for the series, revealing that it'll be set in 9 BBY, but also that Hayden Christensen will be reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, in an event Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy calls “the rematch of the century”.

But now there’s more. Noah Outlaw and Corey Van Dyke of Kessel Run Transmissions have provided another update on the Kenobi series, and it’s a doozy.

Apparently Temuera Morrison, who you will of course recognise as the man behind Jango Fett and his many clone brothers, plus his son Boba, is signed on to appear in the series, and he’s likely to be playing Commander Cody - possibly in flashbacks to The Clone Wars.

What’s more, according to Kessel Run, the other main villains of the series will be a band of clone troopers who are trained Jedi Hunters. Outlaw and Van Dyke also speculate that we may have already gotten a look at them in the Bad Batch teaser released last week, where black-clad soldiers appear on screen for just a moment. (Skip to 2:50 in the below video to see the troops in question.)

They also specify that the Jedi hunters are not the same as the Purge Troopers seen in the Darth Vader comic and in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but rather entirely new creations for this era of Star Wars.

It remains unconfirmed as to whether or not Cody is a part of the modern clones hunting Obi-Wan, but it would make A LOT of sense. There’s that emotional connection between Kenobi and his former Clone Commander, and the character is yet to receive closure in the new Star Wars canon.

Either way, seeing Obi-Wan go up against two of his former friends is going to make for an emotional watch. Here's hoping we learn more details in the weeks ahead.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
