Old Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

2. The Loose Internal Logic

Old Eliza Scanlen
Universal

There's no denying that Old is a movie with a loose grasp on its own internal logic - the machinations of the ageing on the beach are completely inconsistent despite the film trying to nail down some core rules for it.

But clearly Shyamalan is interested less in a crystalline narrative throughline than he is in bombarding viewers with a continually surprising array of unsettling sights.

As such, this isn't a movie that holds up to being picked apart by audiences, and if that's your prerogative, Old will quickly crumble like one of the sandcastles featured on its beach.

But if you're able to just ride the wave and not fixate on the mechanics of every single detail, this is a fun time for sure.
