Onward Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
3. It's Got A Great Message For Kids & Adults
Like the majority of Pixar's movies, Onward isn't just made for kids: it also operates on a level that adults will surely relate to.
The movie is of course thoroughly concerned with themes of family and parenthood in particular, and the prevailing message is one that just about anyone can identify with.
Without going into too many plot details, there's a real appreciation here for cherishing what you have and not losing sight of what's in front of you, with the film serving as a tribute to brotherhood above all else.
It's hardly a groundbreaking or particularly left-field message compared to say, Inside Out telling children to embrace their "negative" feelings, but in a society currently obsessed with nostalgia and looking over one's shoulder, there's something refreshing about a movie that champions the joy of the present.
