Ophelia Lovibond Joins Guardians Of The Galaxy

British actress Ophelia Lovibond has joined Marvel€™s Guardians of the Galaxy movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Best known for her roles in Mr Popper's Penguins, No Strings Attached, and Nowhere Boy, Lovibond will play an aide to The Collector, a detail that has since been scrubbed from the trades. Lovibond's likeliest role in the movie would be Carina, The Collector€™s daughter, who aides her father in his eternal quest for collecting and preserving. The Collector is one of Elders of the Universe, a group of immortals with immense power who've existed since the beginning of the universe. The Collector, whose real name is Taneleer Tivan, collects special artifacts and beings from around the universe with the intention of re-seeding them if they€™re wiped out. He also has the limited ability to see threats that can destroy the universe before they occur - and his first prophecy was about Thanos. He also once possessed the Infinity Gem that controlled reality, not knowing it's true purpose. carina The announcement that The Collector will appear in GotG hints that Marvel might be gearing up to develop The Infinity Gauntlet into a movie. If they€™re casting the Elders of the Universe, then the other Elders might make an appearance like Death, the object of Thanos€™ affections in the Infinity Gauntlet, and The Collector€™s reality gem would be needed for Thanos to unlock to power of the Gauntlet. While it€™s highly probably Thanos will be the villain for The Avengers 2 (which could be subtitled The Infinity Gauntlet €“ just speculation, but that€™d be cool) it looks like the Mad Titan will also make an appearance in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, though the main villain the Guardians will face has yet to be announced. Lovibond joins Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, and Michael Rooker as Yondu. Still to be cast are the two remaining Guardians, Rocket Raccoon and Groot. Directed by James Gunn and currently in pre-production, Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled for release on August 1, 2014
