Oscar Nominations 2021: 7 Ups & 8 Downs

3. Major Snubs For Best Documentary & Best International Feature

La Llorona
Shudder

The Best Documentary and Best International Feature categories so often seem like voters just throwing darts at a dartboard and hoping for the best, and the same was certainly true this year.

Best Documentary saw widely buzzed-about docs Boys State, The Painter and the Thief, and Welcome to Chechnya left off the slate, while the wildly over-praised My Octopus Teacher and the scarcely discussed The Mole Agent managed to get in.

The Best International Feature branch, meanwhile, predictably snubbed the only horror movie of the bunch, Guatemala's superb La Llorona, ensuring this was yet another year where no horror films received any nominations whatsoever.
