Oscar Nominations 2021: The Snubs And Surprises
6. Snub: Jodie Foster - Best Supporting Actress
Of all the films that were jockeying for nominations at this year's ceremony, The Mauritanian was the only one to be shut out completely. Both the BAFTA and the Globes gave The Mauritanian nods but Jodie Foster is most significant as she also won the Golden Globe.
A two time Oscar winning actress, Jodie Foster is clearly loved by the Academy and after her Globes win beating the now Oscar nominated performances of Glenn Close, Oliva Colman and Amanda Seyfried, she seemed like a safe bet to get acknowledged also. That being said, Best Supporting Actress has been the most chaotic category of the year with a constant flux of about eight names getting chosen at each precursor awards show. With Ellen Burstyn and Helena Zengel getting snubbed also, it seems fitting that the most unpredictable category of the year would eliminate the Globes winner from their line-up.
It has been 26 years since Foster garnered an Oscar nomination, and she'll have to wait a little longer until she returns to be nominated again.
