Gravity The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Iron Man 3 The Lone Ranger Star Trek Into Darkness Most people watching the Academy Awards are more likely to have seen all the nominees in this category than they are to have seen all the nominees for Best Picture (sadly), but sometimes this familiarity, particularly for an Oscar novice, can prove to be more of a detriment than an advantage. In this year's category though, given that the forecaster has actually seen Gravity (which is likely seeing as how much money the movie has made), I can't imagine anyone picking anything other than Gravity. In fact, there is no category this year that is as much of a lock as Gravity is to win Best Visual Effects, and deservedly so. The visual effects in the film are so remarkably stunning (arguably the best visual effects in the history of cinema) and are used to such a striking effect that if Gravity does not win the award, the Oscars should be forever discontinued, and if you pick any other movie than Gravity in this category, you should be forced to watch the Oscars in a separate room from everyone else. A film fanatic at a very young age, starting with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movies and gradually moving up to more sophisticated fare, at around the age of ten he became inexplicably obsessed with all things Oscar. With the incredibly trivial power of being able to chronologically name every Best Picture winner from memory, his lifelong goal is to see every Oscar nominated film, in every major category, in the history of the Academy Awards.
