Oscars 2015: 10 Biggest Surprises From The Ceremony

And the award for most uncontrolled acceptance speech goes to...

After months of build-up, the Oscars have finally been and gone. It's like Christmas, except that the Oscar hype drags out even longer than the endless commercialism of the holiday. Thankfully, it's a rather fun ride - as long as you don't take it as a genuine measure of a movie's quality, you can have a whale of a time with the Academy Awards, pouring over the bookies odds and speculating what each previous award ceremonies says about who the golden baldies will ultimately go to. Sure, it's all very predictable - aside from the big prize itself, most of the awards were guessable the moment the nominees were announced - but that's why every effort is put into making the ceremony itself as entertaining as possible. This year, it was Neil Patrick Harris' turn to entertain billions, and thanks to some well planned set pieces (going out in just his underwear in an ape of Birdman was a highlight) he wound up a fun host, even if he could never quite match a perfect opening musical bit. As always, the ceremony had its fare share of shocks, making staying up way too late on a work night more than worth it. Here are the ten biggest surprises from the 87th Academy Awards Ceremony.

Honourable Mention - No Jokes About Length

The Oscars are long. And everybody knows that. Thankfully, this year the host didn't think it necessary to point out that obvious fact. Thanks Neil.
